Versioning

A short, but interesting, question to all users out there. How would you like new releases to be versioned?

Should every version have a new AssemblyVersion such as 12.0.0.0, and next minor is 12.0.1.0 and major update is 12.1.0.0 and bugfixes 12.0.0.1?
Or should only AssemblyFileVersion be used? Or a combination, such as AssemblyFileVersion when no "interface" changes are made and AssemblyVersion otherwise?

I'd prefer only to use AssemblyVersion, and for critical bugs in certain versions just make a new release with the same versionnumber (perhaps change the AssemblyFileVersion, just to indicate that this is a changed assembly)

Suggestions? (and keep it simple...)

My (weak) preference would be for the "a new AssemblyVersion such as 12.0.0.0, and next minor is 12.0.1.0 and major update is 12.1.0.0 and bugfixes 12.0.0.1" suggestion.
